Irish Culture and Heritage

Liam was passionate about all aspects of Irish culture and heritage. From the language to the landscape, the sport, religious traditions and rituals, the history and mythology. Music was no exception.

He was especially interested in the instruments particular to traditional Irish music, such as the uilleann pipes (an evolution of bagpipes) which are powered by a bellows below the elbow as opposed to blowing through a pipe.

He was also fascinated by the social environment in which music was created and enjoyed by Irish people. In the “Ballad Singers”, he recreated the traditional live music scene, synonymous internationally with Irish pubs culture.

The currach makes a reappearance here, due to its association with the Connemara region in the West of Ireland, where Irish traditions and native language are very much kept alive. Liam was a dedicated “Gaeilgeoir” (native Irish speaker), and was passionate about the preservation of all things uniquely Irish. He used his art to reproduce and sustain these ancient traditions that are valued the world over.
