Irish History and Mythology
Liam had an enormous interest in the history of Ireland, as well as the key figures who fought for its emancipation from foreign rule.
His works in this topic include depictions of battle scenes as well as the Irish heroes who fought them. These heroes include Brian Boru, the High-King of Ireland who defeated the vikings in 1014, and Padraig Pearse who led the rebellion against British rule in 1916.
Mythological Figures such as Cú Chulainn, also featured amongst Liam’s national heroes due to their role in the story-telling of the Irish nation. Like Cú Chulainn himself, Liam was a keen hurler and played for Saint Vincent’s, a significant club on the Dublin hurling scene.
